Cupcake Chronicles Episode 2
Birthday Battle 1/29/2013…
The story I am about to share is 100% true. Usually I would change the names to protect the guilty but I won’t this time because my parents are hilarious.
It was around 8:30 AM when I called my mom to wish her a happy birthday. We have this tradition of singing happy birthday to each other. Please keep in mind that neither one of us are Beyoncé. She is my #girlcrush number 2…I digress. Where was I? Oh okay, once I finished serenading my beautiful mom I asked her what kind of cupcakes she wanted for her birthday. She opted for my Day& Night cupcakes (pure Madagascar vanilla cake with chocolate frosting). The plan was for the family to meet for dinner Saturday night at a local restaurant. My plan was to make sure my mom had her cupcakes ON her birthday and not the Saturday after. Needless to say I whipped up a dozen of Day & Night cupcakes and headed to see the birthday girl. The smile on her face when I walked in house with cupcakes in hand was priceless. I told her that it was a must that she had her cupcakes on her birthday because she had to make her birthday wish. My mom said the cupcakes were beautiful but she always goes for her card first
Man…to see my mom tear open the box of cupcakes and take that first bite was a Kodak moment (remember this part it’s important). There she was with frosting on her nose, swinging her feet back and forth in her chair (my mom is pretty short), and grinning ear to ear. Cupcakes and birthdays just take you back to that happy place when you were a kid and she is in her happy place. My dad came home from work about 45 minutes later. He too was grinning ear to ear when her saw the cupcakes but reached for the card I had given my mom first.
Okay, here is where the story goes really far left. When I packaged the cupcakes I purposely packed them in two containers that hold six cupcakes each instead of one container that held all twelve. By doing this I was hoping to avoid the, “you had more cupcakes than me” fight. Yes, my parental units behave like kids at times. Hey…I think it’s cute and funny. My dad said he was going to go change his clothes and come back down and have a cup of tea along with his cupcakes. My mom said she likes hers cold (please don’t judge her…lol) so she proceed to put both containers in the refrigerator. My dad said, “Wait! I like mine room temperature.” My mom handed him the container that had five cupcakes in it and I immediately knew this was going to be a problem. Remember…my mom ate one prior to my dad coming home. My day looked at her like she had three heads and side, “There is one missing out of this box!” My mom looked at him and rolled her eyes and said, “Here! Take this one then. I mean it’s only MY BIRTHDAY AFTER ALL!” My dad didn’t even flinch and said, “Thank you.” I tried to avoid this confrontation but some things you just can’t plan for….lol!
Enjoy!
